  to register your child for an E-T ECC program for the 2012-2013 school year.

The ETECC provides preschool programming for children ages 18 months to five years.  We are located at the Washington Hebrew Congregation in northwest Washington, DC.

In the preschool, children are encouraged to be creative and curious. Through a unit approach, which varies at each age level, the teacher selects tasks and materials that focus on the individual needs within the basic structure. Thus, subject areas are integrated into the total learning situation. Broad curriculum areas include science, social studies, reading skills, language arts and concepts of mathematics. Health and safety, nutrition, music and art appreciation, the Jewish home and holidays are some of the units through which curriculum is implemented. All programming is specifically designed to be developmentally appropriate.

General Program

Utilizing a wide variety of techniques, we seek to give our children a broader and deeper understanding of the exciting world in which they live. Through games, music, manipulative materials, craft activities and audio-visual material, we seek to stimulate our children’s interests and heighten their appreciation for the beautiful and fascinating world around us. Our program is committed to helping each child develop emotionally, socially, physically and intellectually. We combine the best of Jewish content with early childhood social, emotional and cognitive developmental programs.

Special Events

Our children enjoy a wide variety of special events and programs throughout the year. These include weekly Shabbat experiences with their class as well as with their grade, visits to the Sukkah, Hanukkah festivities, Purim parades. Our children also participate in several community service activities including an age-appropriate Walk for the Homeless, fundraising for the Carrie Simon House - a shelter for homeless mothers and their babies, book drives for the Abram Simon Elementary School in Washington, DC, and healthy snack collections for D.C. Central Kitchen and more!

Families have the opportunity to participate in many activities at school including Family Visiting Days, Shabbat Sing, Birthday Celebrations, Thanksgiving Feasts, Passover Sederim, and live special guest music performances. Families join our Twos for a unique, interactive farm experience right at school; and starting in the Threes, chaperoned field trips include theater outings, science centers, and a variety of hands-on learning experiences which support our curriculum.

In partnership with our active Parents Committee, we created an indoor/outdoor gardening initiative and our new experiential Nature Program. They also host our amazing International Day and other events for our students and their families. Parents Committee joins the school in our commitment to supporting our families' integration into the school community through many social events for parents and children throughout the school year.

Supportive Services

We assist families who may have concerns about their child’s development.  We have a screening program with an outreach program through Ivymount School and through appropriate Montgomery County and D.C. Early Intervention Services.  We work as a team with parents, their child, and outside service providers (occupational therapy, speech therapy, physical therapy, etc.) as needed in order to facilitate a positive school experience.

:: Our Programs ::

:: Tune In To Toddlers for children 18 - 28 months old and their parent/caregiver

This first introduction to our school is offered once per week on Tuesdays or Thursdays from  10:00 - 11:30 am.

The program has a socialization and language focus.  Children are introduced to a school setting through crafts, music and large muscle activities.  This is a delightful way for parents to interact with their children as they begin to explore the world around them.

:: Mid Year Twos (MY 2s) for children who will turn two between September 1 and December 31.

This program begins in late January and is offered twice per week on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 - 11:30 am.

Our youngest Twos attend without their parents in this special class which runs from late January through June. Our exceptionally small size and low teacher-student ratio make this program a very successful "first step" into preschool. Our students enjoy art, story time, and many hand-on-play activities. Mid year Twos participate with their teachers in weekly Music and Creative Movement.
